Utah Wind Symphony Assistant Conductor*

The UWS Assistant Conductor is responsible to assist the Music Director of the Utah Wind Symphony not limited to rehearsal preparation and performance.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Conduct UWS and Pops/Education concerts as assigned.
  2. Work closely with the Music Director and VP of Concert Productions.       
  3. Covering UWS rehearsals and concerts while providing assistance to the music director addressing such issues as balance and conducting off stage musicians as needed.
  4. Spokesperson for community events, media activities, etc.

 Qualifications:

  1. Music Degree in Education or related field.
  2. Exceptional musicianship and conducting skills, a broad knowledge of wind band repertoire with experience in programming educational concerts; prior experience with a community or music program experience is strongly desired.
  3. Highly effective organizational skills.
  4. 5+ years of teaching experience.

 

*The position of Utah Wind Symphony Assistant Conductor is a Volunteer position with UWS.

 

Utah Wind Symphony Youth Ensemble: Conductor**

The UWSYE Conductor is responsible for the administration of the program, which includes but is not limited to scheduling and organization of performances and rehearsals, coordination of membership, supervising students.* The UWSYE is a vital part of the mission of Utah Wind Symphony and is in its 5th season. The UWSYE is Utah’s premier ensemble for talented high school wind musicians.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Communicate to UWS Board and VP of Education updates on UWSYE.
  2. Financial responsibilities to include: check deposits, receipts and financial reports.
  3. Contract sectional coaches.
  4. General oversight of program.
  5. Supervise students during rehearsals/performances.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Music Education Degree.
  2. A proven track record of success with youth band building with preferably two or more years of experience.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills that engage young musicians in particular.
  4. Highly effective organizational skills and self-motivating drive to consistently meet deadlines.
  5. Evidence of superior teaching.
